Reevaluating Safety and Revitalization on Calle Real

When it comes to making our city safer, we need to focus on the areas that really need it. As your candidate for mayor, I believe Calle Real deserves more attention than it’s getting.

The Issue:

City Council members want to narrow Hollister Avenue in Old Town for safety, but data shows Calle Real has more significant safety concerns. The Kimley-Horn study found hazardous segments on Calle Real, yet the focus is still on Old Town where no such issues were identified.

My Position:

We should base our revitalization efforts on data. Calle Real has a higher speed limit, narrower bike lanes, and more pedestrian safety problems. It also has seen more fatalities and accidents. Let’s prioritize safety improvements where they are truly needed.

Why It Matters:

  • Safety First: Addressing real safety concerns can prevent accidents and protect our residents.
  • Effective Resource Allocation: Using resources where they’re most needed ensures we get the best results.
  • Community Impact: Improving safety on Calle Real will enhance life for residents and make the area more appealing for businesses.

By focusing on real data and prioritizing Calle Real, we can make our city safer and more enjoyable for everyone. As your mayoral candidate, I am dedicated to these principles.
