I love Goleta and want it to be safe for everyone, but as your candidate for mayor, I believe we need to make sure we’re addressing real problems, not imaginary ones.
The Issue:
The city is considering restriping Cathedral Oaks Road to improve safety. However, this road doesn’t have the safety issues they’re claiming. The real problem is our underfunded infrastructure. Instead of a long-lasting surface, the city opted for a cheaper one that won’t last as long.
My Position:
Dedicating 25% of our roadways to bicycles for the 4% who bike isn’t effective. Enforcing traffic laws for cyclists would be more impactful. Let’s choose the least disruptive option and prioritize better road maintenance.
Why It Matters:
- Resource Allocation: We need to spend our money on real problems, not imaginary ones.
- Effective Solutions: Enforcing existing laws can improve safety without extensive road changes.
By reassessing the necessity of the Cathedral Oaks restriping project, we can better allocate resources to address real safety concerns and maintain road quality. As your mayoral candidate, I will ensure our priorities are in the right place.
